| Article: | GeKKo is designed to resemble an overloaded calligraphy
brush. It's a dirty font. It’s a grungy typeface for those experimental
and not so pretty occasions... PicNic is very successful in creating the
illusion of hand lettering.
These hand-drawn letters intrigued me - was their dinkiness truly vernacular or intentional? - and I decided to try a similar 'good-bad' approach in a complete typeface: Drawing everything intentionally wrong, flipping entire characters, adding useless serifs and giving emphasis to the wrong details. However, the result was a surprisingly unique design that detached itself from its origins. |
